Poppy Field

Poppy Field

Oil, 16 x 20, stretched canvas. I wrestled with this painting. Red and Green are near complementary colors, so I had to push the intensity of the greens down to focus on the intense poppy reds. I left tiny bits of pink and red in the sky on purpose to unify the painting. SOLD at Art at the Mill show 2013 Spring.

Study for boy in Poppy Field

Study, oil, 8 x 6, on prepared hardwood panel. The painting, Poppy field, is intentionally impressionist, harking back to Monet's poppy fields and I wanted the child in the field to have the same loose impressionist feel. I had to experiment with the colors. The child had to stand out from the colors of the grass but not too much.
